NEW CORBIN BENCHREST JACKETS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
White City, OR.
Corbin Manufacturing (PO Box 2659, White City, OR 97503 USA) is now offering two new, high-precision bullet jackets in the Corbin "VB" (tm) design. The "VB" means "Versatile Benchrest", and refers to the ultra high precision wall concentricity desired in benchrest quality jackets, coupled with a controlled expansion wall design ideal for hunting at nearly all velocities.
The new jackets are drawn from an anti-fouling copper alloy with a thin parallel mouth section, which allows the bullet to expand rapidly at low velocity, and also permits the use of a single diameter of core seating punch, which fits this parallel section over a wide range of bullet core lengths. This means the bullet maker can use the same jacket for a number of different weights without having to purchase a different diameter core seating punch (so long as the core length falls within the parallel seating section of the jacket).
Behind this thin (.013-inch) mouth section, the middle of the jacket is made with a much heavier wall tapering back to a thick base. About 2/3 of the jacket length is made in this thicker, tapered wall, for controlled expansion and the strength to hold together and drive the expanded nose without losing the core. When combined with Corbin Core Bonding, the VB jacket produces an extremely accurate controlled expansion hunting bullet. Without bonding, the jacket makes a world-class benchrest bullet.
In recent times, good quality bullet jackets have become hard to find, and delivery promises often evaporate or the price suddenly increases beyond reach, depending on the maker's internal demand. Corbin has long vowed not to produce bullets in competition with clients, so the supply of Corbin jackets should remain stable and the price controlled only by the normal copper market and labor costs, not conflicting interests between making bullets or selling jackets.
At this time, Corbin is offering .224 X .705 length VB jackets, for .22 centerfires, .243 X 1.02 length VB jackets for 6mm, and .308 X 1.25 length VB jackets for the .30 caliber. You can easily make shorter lengths using a Corbin ET-1 jacket trim die, which pinches off the jacket to a precise length in one quick stroke of the press. If you wish to make smaller diameters from these, you can use the Corbin JRD-1 jacket reducing die and pull the .224 easily to 5mm, 17 caliber, 14 caliber or even 12 caliber. The .308 can be made into 7mm, 270, 6.5mm or 257 caliber (or anything in that general range of diameters).
The J-22-705 VB jacket at full length makes a bullet of 52 to 65 grains, depending on ogive shape and tip style as well as material used for the core. The J-30-125 VB jacket at full length makes a bullet of 150 to 240 grains, again depending on shape, nose style and core material. Prices are at prices.htm.
Corbin also offers handgun jackets in a thin wall style designed for modern, ligher weight handguns and cowboy action shooting where a heavy jacket is not desired. The rapid expansion handgun jackets are available in 9mm/357, 10mm/40, 44 and 45 caliber, and can also be drawn or trimmed using the JRD-1 draw die or the ET-1 trim die. This means that .32, 7.5mm, 8mm Nambu and other hard to find jacket diameters are easy to make from the various lengths of 9mm/357 jackets.
